Admissions

Thank you for considering joining our friendly, vibrant school. What’s your next step?

The school has a huge heart. The staff are all nurturing and caring, it feels like a happy place to send our child and we know she is really well looked after.

If your child isn’t old enough to start school yet, you can still register an interest at the school by contacting the school office. It’s a good idea to arrange a tour of the school so you can meet our friendly staff and get a good feel for the place!

It’s a good idea to think of some questions that you’d like to ask us and tell us a little bit about your family and what’s important to you.

Applying for a place in our Nursery

Children are admitted to our Nursery class throughout the year from the term following their 3rd birthday (or later). Full time and part time places are available, and full or half days, which is ideal for introducing children to the school environment.

All 3 and 4-year olds in England are entitled to 15 hours free childcare per week. Many families are entitled to 30 hours. You can use these hours for your time at Netherton Infant & Nursery School. Please contact the school office for further information.

Applying for a place in Reception

Applications for a place in our school from Reception are handled by Kirklees Council through their school admissions process.

Children start reception year at primary school from the September after their fourth birthday, although by law children don't have to start school until the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.

If our school is over subscribed, our Admissions Policy (see below) will be used to decide which children are admitted. Our policy is determined by the Together Learning Trust.

Continuing on to junior school

We have close links to South Crosland Junior School just up the road from us. Most children will transition from Netherton Infant & Nursery School to South Crosland Juniors at the end of Key Stage 1. It’s important that you apply for a place at the school as this is not an automatic procedure.

Don’t worry - we’ll give you lots of reminders and information about how to do this when the time comes. If you would like to find out more about the junior school, then have a look at their website here:
