Parent governor election letter – Notice of ballot

The closing date for nominations for our parent governor vacancy has passed. 5 nominations have been received, and the governing committee is delighted by the response.

We now have 2 vacancies for parent governors, and as there are numerous nominations, a secret ballot must now take place. The two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will secure the roles of parent governors for a four-year term of office.

All votes must be received by 5pm on Thursday 23rd October.

Each candidate has been asked to provide a statement in support of their nomination. Please remember that you are voting for the candidates that you consider to have the skills and experience to undertake the role successfully – it does not matter if you do not personally know the candidates whom you consider would be the right people for the role.

  • My name is Danielle Burrow and I am a qualified Solicitor and Partner at my firm based in Huddersfield.

My eldest daughter, Grace, is currently in year 1 and I have a younger daughter, Florence, who I hope will attend in September 2029. We live a five-minute walk away from the school.

As well as my day-to-day role as a Partner and Solicitor I am also our HR Manager and Senior Reporting Officer; ensuring our business is compliant with regulations and implementing and reviewing management strategies. As a result, I have a breadth of experience in managing people, structure and finances, all of which I believe are skills which will transfer well to the work of a school governor. Whilst I do not have any experience as a governor, or within the education sector, my experience in managing company finances and structure, implementing strategies, and managing confidential staff matters and their wellbeing can help the school develop and create strategic plans to achieve its goals.

I am aware that as governor I would be required to attend meetings and visit the school which is something that I would be keen to do, as well as commit to any training required.

Grace loves her time at school, and I have loved watching her develop and learn in her first year. She gets so much from being there, and it offers her such a wonderful place to thrive – something that I hope for all children and, as governor, would aim to achieve.

  • I would like to be considered for the role of parent governor as I would bring professional, voluntary, and personal experience that I believe would support the school’s continued success.

I have a strong personal connection with the school: my eldest child has just completed three years there, having now moved on to junior school, and my daughter has now started in reception. With our family set to be part of the school for the next three years, I am committed to playing an active role in helping the school thrive.

Professionally, I have worked in the education technology sector for six and a half years, supporting KS4 and KS5 schools with tools to monitor and improve student performance. This has given me valuable knowledge in analysing data, measuring progress, and using evidence to support decision-making — skills that I would bring to a primary school context.

I am also a Scout Leader for Squirrel and Beaver Scouts, where I have gained experience in safeguarding, health and safety, and risk assessment, as well as designing engaging, skill-based activities for young children. In addition, I have been involved with FONS and have supported the school through smaller hands-on contributions such as helping at summer fayres, rebuilding the forest school and gardening.

I believe governors play a vital role in supporting and challenging school leadership. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the school community and help ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils.

  • As all parents do, I want the best for my children. I am applying to be a parent governor in the hope I can contribute to the future development and success of the school. I currently work with SEND children within a primary school and this has given me an insight into challenges schools face in today’s ever-changing environment. Personally I am a very active mum who loves playing netball. I would bring both my perspectives and professional experience. I am approachable, committed and ready to dedicate my time and skills to help Netherton Infant and Nursery School continue to grow and provide the best opportunities for every pupil.

  • Most mornings you’ll find me covered in yoghurt, juggling children and my sanity, hoping we don’t have to use the naughty door if we’re late.

Becoming parents has been the most humbling experience of our lives. My husband’s an NHS doctor, we both had demanding careers before children. I’ve spent twenty years leading large teams, my last had 300 people, a £40 million annual budget with contract value of £2.2 billion. On paper that sounds impressive, but honestly nothing compares to the pressure of parenting: the logistics, the emotional load, the financial juggling and the constant self-doubt.

It’s the hardest leadership job there is and mothers and primary carers rarely get the credit they deserve.

I currently advise boards and executive teams in government departments and global brands with tens of thousands of employees,  and what that’s taught me is that good governance isn’t about box-ticking. My focus on the board will be making sure every pound supports our children and makes staff’s lives easier through smart systems, not more paperwork.

Our children will leave primary school and be competing for jobs against peers from schools that often have far greater resources and opportunities. Governance isn’t a ‘nice to have’; it’s how our children stand a fair chance. How they experience these early years will shape who they become.

I’m calm but driven, direct but collaborative. I’d be proud to bring this experience and insight to our school board.

We may be covered in yoghurt, but we’re raising the future.

  • As a psychotherapist with over 17 years’ experience in the mental health field and a parent for almost seven years, I believe I can make a meaningful contribution as a parent governor.

I run a multi-award-winning specialist mental health and wellbeing clinic supporting parents and families. This role has given me both extensive experience of working with the community you serve and strong business and leadership skills. As an advocate for parental and child mental health, my mission is to help change generational patterns so that adults can model healthier ways of caring for themselves and their children. I would bring this evidence-based perspective, alongside my professional expertise, to support the school’s ethos and priorities.

I am an active and well-respected member of the Netherton community, with a proven ability to engage with pupils, parents, staff, and local networks. My background as both a clinician and business leader equips me with skills in communication, governance, and strategic thinking, while my work with families enables me to understand the challenges and aspirations of parents.

I am passionate about ensuring all children are given the best possible foundation for their education and wellbeing. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the governing board of Netherton Infant & Nursery School, helping to uphold its values, support staff, and strengthen the link between the school and its community.
